Sidebar & Navigation

When to use

Sidebar & Navigation give you fast access and movement across your entire Workflowy. The sidebar (toggle‑able via the hamburger menu) shows your STARRED items and your full HOME tree - you can click to jump anywhere, drag & drop bullets into it, or even add new nodes directly from it.

Breadcrumbs appear when you zoom into a list, letting you click back to any ancestor along your path.

Breadcrumbs

As you zoom in, a path of breadcrumbs is created and shown in the menu bar.You can click these breadcrumbs at any part along the path to zoom out to that section.

When the breadcrumb path is too long, a set of ellipses will be shown '···'. You can mouse over these ellipses to see the rest of the hidden path and click on any of the parts.

Sidebar

The left-hand sidebar allows you to quickly jump to different sections of your Workflowy and also drag and drop items from the current document to a new location.

You can click on the hamburger icon in the top-left side of the menu bar to toggle the sidebar.

If the sidebar is already visible, you can click on the arrow icon to hide it.

STARRED section

The left-hand sidebar has two main parts, the first is the 'STARRED' section that shows all your starred items and searches. This is where you can click on the items to navigate to them or un-star them.

HOME section

The second section is the 'HOME' section. This is where you'll find the entire layout of your Workflowy. You can use this section to navigate within your Workflowy or add items.

Create items from the sidebar

You can add items directly in the left-hand sidebar without having to navigate to the section first.

Move items into the sidebar

You can move items from the current workspace into a different section of your Workflowy by dragging-and-dropping them into the sidebar.

Jump to another section

You can use the keyboard to jump to different sections of your Workflowy via the “Jump to” menu.
