MCP Server

Workflowy MCP is a desktop app that lets you connect your Workflowy account to external AI agents and tools.

It works with Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Craft Agents, Cherry Studio and other apps that support MCP.

What you can do

  • Search your Workflowy nodes
  • Read and edit nodes in real time
  • Save bookmarks for commonly used locations
  • Connect multiple Workflowy accounts
  • Use an AI Instructions node in Workflowy to guide assistant behavior across sessions

What you need

How to install

  1. Download the latest release for your platform from GitHub Releases.
  2. Install and open the app.
  3. Follow the steps in the setup
  4. Restart your MCP client.

Workflowy MCP currently ships desktop builds for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

How it works

Once connected, your AI app can read and update your Workflowy content, search across your account, and save bookmarks on your computer.

AI Instructions

You can create a node called AI Instructions in Workflowy to store preferences for your assistant. For example:

  • Always add new tasks to my #inbox
  • Use checkboxes for tasks, not bullets
  • My calendar is under Daily Notes > 2025

The app can load this node at the start of conversations so your assistant keeps using your preferred workflow.

Example uses

  • Search a large project archive
  • Ask your AI to summarize notes under a project node
  • Add tasks to your today list from an AI chat
  • Save bookmarks for recurring workspaces or review queues

Troubleshooting

  • If tools do not appear, restart your MCP client after updating its configuration.
  • If search results look outdated, ask your AI to sync the nodes.
  • If you use multiple accounts, give them clear labels so your assistant can target the right one.
